Less than three weeks after German team was crowned winner of the 2014 World Cup hosted by Brazil, the German team has damaged the World Cup trophy during the team’s joyous mood in their home country.
Joachim Low’s team beat Argentina 1-0 in the final to win the cup for the fourth time in their history, following triumphs in 1954, 1974 and 1990.
The chief of the country’s football association, DFB, revealed that a small piece of the trophy was chipped off.
“At one point, a small piece of our World Cup trophy was chipped off,” DFB president Wolfgang Niersbach told Die Welt. “But do not worry! We have specialists on the case who can fix it.
“We have investigated persistently who it was that damaged the trophy, but the investigation was concluded without a result.”
The trophy which the Germans took home however, is just a replica, as FIFA has stopped giving out the original after a history of stealing.
In a statement, the president of the German football federation, Wolfgang Niersbach, confirmed that their World Cup trophy was damaged during the team’s celebrations.

“A small piece was chipped off during the celebrations. But don’t worry. We have specialists who can repair this”, Niersbach said.
He added: “We have investigated the incident thoroughly but we did not get a result from that investigation.”
